Jog falls, the highest waterfalls in India is located in Sagara Taluk, Shimoga District. Sharavathi river which starts at Ambuteertha near Teerthahalli runs through the valleys of western ghats and falls from a height of 253 m (829 ft) at a village called Jog creating a stunning view.

It is around 100 km from Shimoga and around 30 km from Sagar. The Sharavathi river will fall in 4 segments which are called as Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket. In rainy season, when the linganamakki dam is full, you will not be able to differentiate the 4 segments, the whole river will fall down with a great majesty resembling Nayagara falls.

Linganamakki dam across river sharavathi serves hydro-electric power station. Its one of the largest hydro-electric stations in India and a significant source of power for Karnataka. (1200 MW capacity).

Steps are there till the bottom of the falls. You can trek down, enjoy the splash and play in the water. View points are made at the right place to enjoy the serene beauty of the falls.

You can reach the other side of the falls ( British bungalow) by travelling 5 km in honnavar road. You can reach the top of the falls, nowadays famously known as Mungaru MaLe spot since famous kannada movie Mungare MaLe was shot there. Beware of monkeys and pay double attention while going on rocks. Many death accidents have occurred there!

Food is available at the spot. Many photographers will be available there to capture the moment, print that within 15 mins and give back to you for a reasonable price.

Dabbe falls, kakana koTe trek, Honnemardu are the nearby places of interest.
